There's a lot of definitive statements being made on a player who has played 11 minutes of league football this season. Let's be honest - we can't know what state the player's in. All we know is he was good in the past.

Absolutely spot on there.

He has obviously worked with Koeman previously
I'd have moved for him as a replacement for Noble And offered Noble to Brentford as a MAKEWEIGHT for Hogan

If Schneiderlin had turned up with us it would have been no surprise to see him play at right back.

Clearly a lot better than anything we have in that position, so a good signing for Everton this.

I just can't get my head around why he would not want to come us with the massive lure of the London Stadium...

We're in the tricky situation of having to clear out a good few players before knowing who we need and on what terms. We've made a lot of noise about who we 'might' go for and have (thankfully) had cursory bids for inappropriate players laughed out.
There may be more ITK people on here who can explain who we have as registered first-teamers and what the regulations are that might hold us back - number of players, domestic : foreign ratios, wage structure, FFP etc.
I'd be happy to see us pay out to free transfer a few if needed but I don't trust them to leave us short by losing lots of players without then adding what we need.

Guess it depends on what our transfer budget is. He'd be an improvement in every player we have in his role, no doubt about that. If we had £80m odd to spend then we should be in for him. But I'm guessing the owners have their hands down the back of the sofa trying to scrape Pennines together for another obscure loan signing, and as we really need a right back and a striker, scneiderlin isn't priority. Shame though as I've no doubt he'll make a big difference to Everton

Schneiderlin was a really good player at Southampton. I also think last Summer when Obiang was for sale and out of the picture, it would have been a great time for an upgrade - I think the club misplayed it and they're lucky Obiang came back so strong.
But I just can't see where Schneiderlin fits in the squad as it is now. He may be or may not be a better player than Obiang, hard to tell, and Obiang has the age advantage there with more to come. Noble and Kouyate are currently perhaps at a low ebb but last season they seemed at times a perfect fit for what Bilic does. Fernandes is already on the fringe of the first 11, also pretty clearly best as a central midfielder. Nordtveit has barely played in midfield, which was the role he was bought to play. There's Lanzini too.
How much does Schneiderlin really improve that mix? He's clearly behind Carrick, Herrera, Fellaini at Man Utd - that's where he is. He might make our first eleven or he might be on the bench. It's a lot of money to spend for that. It reminds me a lot of the prospects for buying Ayew in the Summer. Is he a bit better than Feghouli or Antonio? Maybe, in theory. Is that enough to make a signing worthwhile? - not at that price imo. He's slightly too old to be a developing asset either. Nothing quite fits. It's a good player available at the wrong time for us with not enough definite upside.
I think many whu fans are desperate to see money spent as a signal of intention. I can see that, but at the same time I think that's a terrible reason to buy a player who doesn't quite make sense.

Was a very good player at Southampton which is why Man U and Arsenal were interested Not quite sure why it hasn't worked at Man U but he was competing against £30m Herrera, £28m Fellaini, £38m Mata & £90m Pogba. Great signing for Everton to replace the ageing Barry and team up with Gueye. Would have been a step up for us too but Man U wanted paying in actual money and a realistic price.

Good player
Seems a decent price
Would love us to get him but Egg is right there are more urgent issues that need attending and our owners are never going to spend £22M

Really why would WH be in for Schneiderlin? We need a DM like a hole in the head with Noble, Nordveidt, Kouyate, Obiang & Fernandes but we do need a RB, CB and 2 strikers...
